What about you? What books did you love, hate or wish you would've read in 2011?
I haven't had very good luck with books lately. I've found myself abandoning more and more midstream. Not sure why. One of the better books I read this year was The Help. I don't usually like bestseller books like that, but it was really good. And I was surprised at how much I disliked Jim Butcher's The Furies of Calderon. Couldn't get into it, even after three tries. Weird.
ReplyDeleteI was a total reading slacker this year. Read Mistborn, It's Not Easy Being Green, and some selections from Flannery O'Connor's collected work. Game of Thrones. I read a couple cool books I got from this one awesome author I know, The Body Dwellers and The Junkie Tales.. along with a couple writing books. Also, When Ninjas Attack. The Other Side of Hell. Just finished The Shifter. Starting A Christmas Carol by Dickens. That's it. I'm blaming Words with Friends.
ReplyDeleteHey L.G.,
ReplyDeleteGood to see you. I'm sorry you haven't had book luck lately. I'm looking forward to reading The Help. And I've had a similar experience with Jim Butcher, which is odd since I usually like his stuff.
Hi Alicia:
ReplyDeleteYou're sweet. Did you find any of the writing books helpful? And I highly doubt you have ever slacked at anything! Did you register for PPW yet?
Of course! It seems that if you've read two writing books, you've read them all. I mostly skim them, stopping to read when I find something new and interesting.
ReplyDeleteI didn't slack at registering for PPW. I took advantage of the early registration during this year's conference. L.G., however, is slacking. She needs to get on it. :)
Man, I've been banging my head since I failed to do the early registration at last year's conference.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried to read Furies of Calderon yet, but now I'm wary.
No 1's or 2's; that's a good sign, right? I need to check out some of these books.
Let's see, I finally read Eragon. Read and loved The Body Dwellers and Blood on the Ice. I've had a great time discovering some self-pubbed authors through blogs. Oh, also Acevedo and Stein. I've read a billion books this year, yet I'm having a hard time remembering what. Grr! Maybe because the last thing I read was a Junie B. Jones chapter book?? Oh, and John Hart! I read a lot of YA this year since that's what my novel is, so things like Marbury Lens and Kelley Armstrong's YA series. Erm, that is all I can think of.
Hey Shannon,
ReplyDeleteAw that's nice. Thanks for reading The Body Dwellers. Blood on the Ice by Ian Healy is a great one. And how can you go wrong with Mario or Jeanne?
