My name's Julie and I'm a genre slut.
This is where you say, Hi Julie.
I wasn't always a slut. I started out writing crime fiction. But I've always loved romance books too. So slowly, over time, my crime novels began to have an element of romantic suspense. But told in first person by a male protagonist, which broke those rules. Then I added humor too. And for kicks I built urban fantasy type worlds based on 'real' places. So now I'm living in sin in this genre slut-limbo of general fiction and loving it. See, I'm a ho!
Some say my 'openness' is a bad thing. That one day I'll regret it. What do you think? Will my eagerness to taste the forbidden fruits of multiple genres ultimately hurt or help my career?
I think we write what the voice inside us tells us to write and the only "sin" would be to deviate from that. And, I've written in a couple different genres too. So, I'm a ho too! If anything, we're in good company. It's a good thing. No regrets!
ReplyDeleteHi, Julie.
ReplyDeleteI think being a genre slut works for you. I enjoy the mix. Keep it up, keep examining new frontiers, and please keep writing awesome stories! If we don't mix things and change them up, literature will become stale.
